Towne Square Concept D - Hybrid

As part of our plan to revitalize Oakville’s historic downtown, the town is redesigning Towne Square, a small but unique public space located at 210 Lakeshore Road. Building on the work done on the downtown streetscape design, a new design for Towne Square will enhance the vibrancy of the neighbourhood and provide more opportunities for public events.

A few things to keep in mind:

  • If you like some elements from one design, but other elements from another, feel free to take a mix and match approach. Please clearly indicate your preferences in your comments.
  • Most of Towne Square is built over an underground parking garage, making it a challenge to plant trees in the space.

  2. The best of the 2 choices

The water feature idea is a step in the right direction, as it serves to attract and hold customers to the area. The current water feature does neither (and isn't even owned by the city).
Not sure about the wavy lines, but an aerial view isn't how anyone would see them.
What's needed are places for people to sit, connect, chat, and meet. Tables, with facing chairs, attract and hold people. Benches can only be secondary seating options.

  3. too much cement, stone and not much green and it is seems an inspiration of the city of Barcelona pavement

The key, is to keep the older concept or a touch that reminds it, not contemporary, because Mid town and uptown development would be that way. Concept F

  5. Ramp not stairs

I like the amphitheater but would prefer a ramp to the stairs to get there so that it is fully accessible. Having a separate ramp for those needing one is not inclusive

  7. My comment is that we need as many seating areas as possible for music etc events as well as to just enjoy the space.

Lots of seating areas please so everyone can enjoy the public events that take place in this space. These seating areas will also allow somewhere so one can rest.

  9. Design elements should have better visual connection

Although the design may look functional, but any line or area can be extended or changed without having any significant effect on the overall form. Design components must have better visual connection to strengthen the overall design concept.

  11. The wavy lines on the floor are horrible

Everything looks fine except the wavy lines on the ground. They are absolutely horrible.
