Online Services

We want to make interacting with the town easier and more convenient for you! Share your ideas on how you would improve online services with the town.

Think of online services as transactions and interactions that are done on the Internet and often accessible through websites, web services, smartphones, apps, and social networks. Some examples we came up with include:
• searching information (registers, lists, databases)
• registering for a program or booking a facility
• requesting services and/or reporting problems
• applying for and/or tracking permits
• public consultation and engagement
• payment and invoicing

We look forward to hearing your ideas! You have ten votes (maximum three votes per idea), so use them to show support for your favourite idea(s). Remember to visit often. You can always change your vote as new ideas come in.

Thanks for sharing! Now let’s get started.

  1. "While you Wait" active living proposal

As a parent of young children, when I take them to their recreational activities, I sit around and watch them play/learn while I wait. With while “While you Wait” physical activities, parents/guardians who prefer to use the time to get active (like their children are doing) could get an opportunity to workout at the same time that their children are participating in activities. This saves them time and gets them active promoting healthy living.

  2. Do not waste money on a new library - Oakville has plenty of libraries. Let's make full use of online books to save $200 million!!

Why spend 200 million on a new Oakville library when we already have a number of facilities. Let's make full use of online technology for books. A new library is simply a horrible waste of money.

  3. Newsletters / E-mail Communications

I'm not sure if there's an e-mail newsletter. I couldn't find one on the site. Personally, I think the best thing you could do is make a point of having residents, both new and old, register their e-mail address, physical address and other pertinent details with you so that you can begin to build out notifications on community events, notify people when it's time to vote, build a strong volunteer base, and leverage your database in order to conduct online surveys and gather opinions and feedback. As you roll out new services, you can notify users and allow them to…

  4. Use Google Maps for the Ward Boundary Map

I think, rather than the map you currently use to display the ward boundaries, you could use Google maps to mark the boundary lines, which would allow users to enter their address and see which ward they fall within. (Particularly useful if you are a new resident.)

  7. Make a smartphone app

Make an app that could find parking at all of the municipal parking lots, find services nearby, maybe view council minutes and etc. on the go. I've seen other towns with this, how about Oakville had one?

  13. Offer personal account on oakville.ca

Allow customers to create their own single login account on the town’s website, with access to all online town services. Personal account would include a record of previous transactions, including property tax information, service requests, program registration, etc.
