To make the downtown experience more enjoyable sidewalks on Lakeshore Road should be wider. This would allow for benches to sit on and cafes and restaurants should be allowed to utilize this space. Parking should be eliminated and the safe bicycle lane should continue there. Instead of people just jumping out of their parked cars to go into one store they could stroll by several stores that would allow for more unplanned traffic into these retail spaces if they would have to park a few blocks away. Without the parked cars obstructing the view the downtown would be a more pleasant place for locals and tourists alike. There should be more events in the harbour Lakeside Park.
Parking downtown in the public lots should be free or else soon there will be no merchants to be able to operate business there. People prefer to shop at plazas where parking is not a hassle. Town of Oakville is too greedy. Why do we have to pay if we drop by the library to pick up a few books? Obtaining parking ticket is taking more time than how much I would spend picking up my books.
yes enhance pedestrian engagement, make walkway inviting and safe, accommodate people with mobility challenges and elderly .. current situation is very dated (meaning : not in keeping with progressive pedestrian use .. still focused on the car)
